flustix PFAS-free certification

flustix PFAS-FREE is an independent certification programme that verifies products, materials and packaging as free from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Companies from all industries can submit their products to the independent third-party certification process. The assessment is based on scientifically substantiated laboratory testing and evaluates compliance against defined PFAS limits for the relevant product category. Products, materials and packaging must meet the certification requirements within their respective segments in order to be successfully certified and licensed.

About the standard

PFAS-FREE TOTAL PRODUCT

For products where both the product and its retail packaging are verified as PFAS-free. Provides independent evidence supporting compliance efforts related to REACH and PPWR requirements, while enabling credible sustainability and green-claims communication aligned with EmpCo. Suitable for: packaged consumer goods, consumer-ready products and complete product-packaging solutions.

PFAS-FREE PRODUCT

For solid products, materials and components that have been independently verified as PFAS-free. Provides reliable evidence supporting REACH-related requirements while enabling transparent and credible sustainability claims in line with EmpCo Suitable for: consumer goods, textiles, components, semi-finished products and raw materials.

PFAS-FREE PACKAGING

For packaging and packaging materials that have been independently verified as PFAS-free. Provides reliable evidence to support PPWR implementation and helps companies communicate product and packaging claims transparently and credibly. Suitable for: paper and cardboard packaging, films, bags, and primary, secondary and transport packaging.

PFAS-FREE PRODUCT CONTENT

For liquid, paste-like, gel-based and powder products independently verified as PFAS-free. Provides reliable evidence for PFAS-related requirements under REACH while supporting transparent and credible product communication. Suitable for: cosmetics, personal care products, cleaning agents, food and dietary supplements, paints, coatings and adhesives.

The seal is issued in cooperation with accredited certification and testing partners such as Control Union in an independent third-party system.

The certification program is based on international and national standards and is constantly being updated in accordance to them. In this way, flustix certification supports companies in complying with relevant and emerging EU regulations, such as PPWR or the Green Claims Directive.

The flustix certification incorporates rigorous laboratory tests and a certification process developed in collaboration with over 50 independent specialist bodies and clearly stands out from commercial self-declarations.

The certification process

Any product can qualify for the flustix PFAS-free seals by undergoing a multi-step evaluation process. Manufacturers wishing to label their products with a flustix PFAS-free seal must submit product samples and relevant data to flustix and our independent partner laboratories. These laboratories analyze the samples using advanced testing methods to identify the plastic content. The results of this analysis serve as the basis for determining seal eligibility, with final certification issued by accredited partners like Control Union.
